Worthing Food Foundation
The Worthing Food Foundation is Worthing’s largest foodbank. Alongside our sister service, the Worthing Vegan Foodbank, we support around 1800 local residents every month. In 2023, we distributed the equivalent of 240,000 meals, or two for every resident of Worthing. We are a self-funded, volunteer-run independent community foodbank which seeks to support all those in need across Worthing. Our parent charity is the Les Alden Foundation, charity no. 1190114.
We are a non-referral food support service supplying fresh, dry and tinned food, as well as other essentials such as baby supplies, hygiene products and pet food to people in need. People can self-refer but other agencies such as the Council, the CAB, schools and other charities, can and do refer people to us. The only requirement to receive food is that you are hungry. To register with us to receive food support, please call or text 07526 176272 or click here.
We believe that our approach removes a lot of the stigma that surrounds food bank use. It also maintains dignity and allows us to build relationships that can then be used to steer people towards other help that they may require. We have developed a pathway that, in partnership with other agencies, helps people break their reliance on food projects such as ours. We aim to create a (food) safe and secure space where people have the time to seek and implement changes.
The Worthing Food Foundation operates from the East Worthing Baptist Church in Pendine Avenue BN11 2NA. We welcome donations of dry and tinned food (pasta, rice, tinned meat meals, tinned tomatoes, pasta sauces, tinned fruit, coffee, tea, biscuits, cereals), baby supplies (nappies, wipes), bathroom supplies, toilet paper, and dog and cat food between Tuesday-Friday 9-11am. Food collections and deliveries take place on Wednesdays and Fridays from 10am-12 noon.
The continuing cost of living crisis is creating real hardship for many in our community. The rising cost of food and a reduction in available grants and external funding means that we are more than ever reliant on the generosity of our local community. If you are able to provide a financial donation, we would be very grateful. All financial donations go towards providing food and other essential supplies to Worthing residents in need.
